Life and Crafting

Hello there friends!
I kinda got hyjacked lost there for a little bit.  Last Friday my son Scooter broke his colar bone while snowboarding... fun eh?  Everything after the call to meet him at the hospital is a blurr.  All week we've been visiting Orthopedic surgeons to discuss what's next.  Although Scooter was recommended to have a plate and screws put in |notice it's broke in 2 places| he chose to allow it to heal on it's own. The good news is, if it doesn't heal right or form a union, he can have surgery later.  If you know of any great suppliments/diets for healing bones, I'd love to hear about them. :o)

So everything got put on hold... Christmas plans and shopping...even my Anniversary.  I didn't realize how much help one would need with just one working arm.  I'm doing his laundry once again, driving him around and even helping him apply deodorant.  Ha! Thankfully, each day gets easier and he is able to do more.

I have a few projects that are out about in blogland.  Thought I'd share!  On Friday, I created a snowflake card using the NEW Hero Arts Fancy Dies... love these dies!!!!

And today... I'm featured on A Blog Named Hero with this little cutie!  I found THESE little calendar cases and thought it was perfect for a shaker type ornament.  FUN!

Well that's all I've got... not sure if I'll post again before Christmas.  So if I don't, I'd like to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas!  Thanks for all your suppport, comfort and friendships.

Be safe and enjoy!

So sorry to hear of your son's accident. I'm glad it is something that will heal in time! I saw your amazing snowflake card earlier this week...so stunning with that lovely icy coating. I appreciate the way you let that gorgeous snowflake take center stage. And your snowman card is so cute I can hardly stand it! Clever idea.

Sorry to hear of your son's mishap - and I do hope it heals on his own. One of my sons broke his collarbone but he was only three years old and with a brace, it healed nicely on it's own. All the best to him and to you and your family too! Thanks for all you share on your blog - love your projects and look forward to the next one! Merry Christmas to you and yours!

My daughter broke her collarbone turning upside down on the monkey bars without holding on in any form! Everything healed wonderfully on it's own and I hope the same turns out to be true for your son. Have a wonderful Christmas and a happy New Year :)

So sorry to hear about your son and I'll be hoping that he does heal well and won't have to have any surgery. As for vitamans etc., I would think things that are good for joints/bones may be beneficial. Maybe Calcium, Vitamin D and even some of the Supps like Glucosamine and Chondroitin--- but as they always say, I would also check with his MD for their ideas and to make sure they are good for him too!

In the meantime, I hope he takes it easy and doesn't go overboard trying to rush things. Mom's are always the best medicine for their children, no matter what age.

Have a wonderful Christmas and thanks for sharing your wonderful talent with us every day -- I truly admire you art! It's always a joy to see!

Merry Christmas to you and your family! I will include Scooter in my prayers for a speedy healing of his collar bone. I've had a little experience with this. Our son broke his collar bone three times in two years when he was younger. A fall from his bicycle, his sister dumped him off her back, his cousin swept him off the bed with a pillow in a pillow fight! All this was 30+ years ago and he has never had any problems from the natural healing process!

Shari, you didn't mention your son's age. I was a nurse for centuries, lol, and there is a orthopedic "saying" about broken clavicles: "If they are in the same room, they will heal." So, you see, Scooter made the correct decision, to just let them heal. There are ortho "appliances" that help, such as a wrap that immobilizes the affected side, and arm. It allows for proper alignment. Lots of these fellas end up with great posture due to it, as it encourages the body to stand more erect to approximate the clavicle "pieces". Hope that is helpful. Yes, it is difficult as a Mom, plus difficult to function with one arm. I always said my left arm is "decoration" because when I had to immobilize my right arm, I couldn't do anything with just the left. LOL My heart goes out to both of you and I know you will make it through with the love you have in your family. Holiday time makes us more grateful, and broken bones does the same. Love your style and love your cards. I keep going back to your wonderful Collage Boards that you've made. I adore them. Thanks for sharing you talent, as well as your personal life. Makes me feel as though I really know you. Blessings over the holidays, and everyday, Anna

Thanks so much Anna! He is 23, we let him decide on this one, and I agree he made the right choice. He broke the dominate right side. He has a good attitude, we'll get through it. They don't use the circle 8 brace anymore... he is in a fancy sling now.
thanks again!

Happy healing to Scooter and hope you all had happy holidays, despite his mishap! Love all your projects, Shari, but especially that yummy snowflake card. Thanks for the inspiration!!

I love the ornament and your card is beautiful! Hoping Scooter heals up quickly. Some supplements to try: Standard Process Bio-dent or Calcifood, MSN (methylsulfonylmethane), Vit D3 (natural), Bromelain (reduces inflammation from injuries). Here's a link for the Standard Process info: http://www.standardprocess.com/Standard-Process-Document-Library/Brochures/bonehealthL1275.pdf

Hope this helps. If some of this isn't very clear, feel free to flickr email me. :)

Hi Shari, I know it is a little late, but comfrey is great for healing. You should be able to get the cream/lotion at a natural health store or chemist, now that the swelling has probably reduced you can gently rub it into the area. Magnesium powder or tablets will help greatly in the healing and comfort, it helps relax the muscle tension and helps with the circulation. Hope he has a speedy recovery
