We had a light snow fall last night and early this morning....it was a good photo opportunity...so I bundled up...and out I went.

I try to explain to my California friends about the dreary Grey on Grey scenery we experience during the winters and I think this shot shows it well. Believe it or not, I tried to increase the saturation of color in photoshop...nope....still dreary!

But before you can go out and take photos, there's a little process you have to go through. First...you have to carefully open the car door and extract your snow brush/ice scraper from behind the drivers seat. Not always an easy task....as snow likes to fall onto the seat once the seal of the door has been broken...it kinda just gets sucked in.

Now that you've cleaned the car windows sufficiently for visibility and safety.....your shoes have become covered with the white fluff.

So the trick is not to get the snow in the car....not good once it melts. I prefer the sit on the seat and bang the shoes together method....then I swing my feet in and away I can go.

Sounds fun doesn't it? All I can say is that there is this cute little fishing boat resting comfortably in my garage which is preventing me from parking there!!!

What a good mom/wife I am!

Enjoy!

Shari, Doesn't everybody who grows up in the mid-west bang their feet together when they get in their car after cleaning the snow off of it? I know I was forever telling my kids, "bang your boots together BEFORE you come into the house!" Still love your skills capturing light with a camera-even the dreary Grey. At least your snow isn't encased in a crust of ice, which has made even walking the dog a dangerous activity! Happy winter!

Hi Tandra and Michelle...

It's funny....a great technique for two extremely different climates. Tandra realizes that I probably learned my foot banging for removing sand (We grew up together in Laguna Beach)....and Michelle knows of this from growing up in the snow.

No, not my barns, but close to my house. We can hear the rooster in the morning from this farm. It's kinda cool!

So glad that you are posting again, Shari - I love to see your pictures. That's about what it looks like here, too. Blah!

Love your comment just above mine about hearing the rooster in the morning! So many sounds have disappeared from our world, that being one of them for most people, so cherish that sound! One I really miss is from living in Luxembourg 40 years ago.....and hearing church bells. What a sound, and I miss it so much.

Thanks for showing us the beauty in common things.

Great pictures Shari, I love the barn one. I got my first taste of being in the snow a couple weekends ago. Beautiful but I don't think I'd want to live in it.
GREAT to see you back!

Shari, my kids would love to have your snow...they would gladly go out and clear it off the car for you, it is so rare here...On occasion when I have had 'snow feet' you will be reassured to know that I too use the banging together method. We have had really cold weather here and when I ventured out I wish I had taken my camera all the trees were covered with the most sparkly ice crystals.
