My health check-up journey

Well, I had my physical yesterday....everything is functioning just fine. Looks like I'll be around for awhile.

One of the things that lies in the back of my mind as I approach 50 (yep you heard me) is that my father passed away at the young age of 54. He was afflicted with an acute Leukemia, he died within 45 days of his diagnoses. Of my sisters, I seem to carry most of his traits: height, weight, build, skin, hair texture, teeth (well we all have his big teeth). There is no test to see if you will get Leukemia, but I can at least monitor my white blood cell count and keep track of anemia (which are all in very good ranges for me).

So, my wee bits are still wee bits, My next step is the dreaded mammogram and I'm done getting poked and prodded for the year. It feels good to be on this side of all my appointments (I'm up for the squish...because a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do).

I did how-ever get an unexpected shot yesterday...Tetanus. Wow it's been a long time. And Ouch, that little bugger has left my arm sore!

I'm still waiting for my new and improved glasses to come in. Can't wait to be able to see a little better. :o)

So my friends, be brave and get yourself checked out. I'm feeling much better about having gotten all this behind me.

It's good timing for me as my sister apparently just adopted these twins...looks like she'll need some help keeping them in line.

:o)

Good for you! I know it's not fun to do all those checkups, but it's so, so necessary!

So....when do we meet the twins? :-)

Being close to 50 myself, I understand the significance of those good health checkups--congratulations! As for the twins--does your sister need any help keeping them in line? :-)

Shari, glad to hear you got a clean bill of health. It's important to stay on top of it when you have a family history of problems. In 2002, my mother's breast cancer recurred as bone cancer and at the same time my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He's fine. She passed in 2003. Then her sister had uterine cancer last year. I really have to stay on top of things.

But I love how you rewarded yourself (and us!) with that gorgeous eye-candy! TFS!

The twins are mine... all mine...
;-)

About the colonoscopy - as miserable of a procedure as it is, the preparation for it is far worse!! Although I have to admit that I felt exceptional when it was all over... what with the pipes being cleaned out and all.

Nice photo if not quite my type :)

Glad to hear everything is tickety boo - I know I'm not heading to 50 but I have noticed I now need to take better care now I'm 40. Can't get away with bad behaviours nowadays - and everything aches!!!!

As a previous poster said - I want to see many many many years of your ideas to come yet :)

Glad to hear all is well. I know how scary it can be. My mom passed away at 43 from a blood clot and my dad passed away at 65 from cancer. In 2006 I was diagnosised with cancer and two weeks after found out I had a complication of a large blood clot. I feel like God gave me both to tell me to get over being scared and just live your life which is what I am doing now. At my last check up I was cancer free but still have the silly blood clot to deal with just as a reminder I think. Hugs to you

Good for you! I'm one of those that can take care of everyone else, but put off taking care of myself. Just had my 'annual' physical - 2 years late!

I enjoy your designs - those inches are great!

I hope you can read this with your glasses! I too got the full rundown, chol. is 184, boob squish worked out great and pealed those babies off the metal plate when they were done, not fun for large chested women, crotch shot came out with no problem still have a butt check but need to wait another 9 years, turned 41 after CHA, but as I say age is just an age not a way of life! So good to see you at CHA! Thanks for bringing Danny! sherry czarnecki
