Happy Monday everyone!

I've got a little share for you today. I made this fun birdhouse notepad from a couple of Kerri Bradfords digital cutting files. It's to hang on the fridge to take quick notes.

Once I had my pieces cut, I went to town covering the birdhouse with strips of my FAVORITE Studio Calico papers. The Bird was cut out with white cardstock then colored with Distress inks (I started with Antique Line and finished with Frayed Burlap).

The finished notepad is 10" x 6.5". The notes are 3.75" square and are made from printer paper secured with brads... I can pull each sheet off and refill when it runs out. I hope you like it!

LOVE is in the air...

Well...sorta! I felt like playing with some of our new stamps, LOVE.LOVE.LOVE these Word Shadows. They are perfect for Clean and Simple cards, you can just about use any ink color with them, and use a regular circle punch to cut them out.

You know me... I just HAVE to use brown somewhere on my cards... so I combined it with pink and green. I colored in the heart with a pink pencil on the brown one. I think they came out kinda cute considering I used scraps and such that were laying around.

I'll play a bit more... there are so many other occasions in that stamp set. Is it on your list? I'm considering it a MUST have for 2012.

I hope everyone has enjoyed their holidays, I sure did.

2012 Hero Arts Catalog Blog Hop

Hi everyone!!! Welcome to the 2012 Hero Arts Catalog Blog Hop!

This is the most exciting time of the year for me, it's when I can finally share our new images!!! What could be any better than new rubber?

To start things off, I stamped the Newspaper Eiffel Tower (CG417) with white StazOn on an acetate card. Then I white embossed the Newspaper Flower (CG412) and did some finger painting with my favorite Distress inks (Broken China and Vintage Photo). I layered Latte and Pool papers on the inside of the acetate card.

I just LOVE.LOVE.LOVE these stamps!

Holiday Blog Party!

For the party I created some quick gift card enclosures. They are even small enough to hang on the tree! They didn't take very long to cut, stamp and assemble... the possiblities are endless with all the cutting files available from these talented ladies! Fun Fun!!!

Then I went on to decorating a candle. I cut out various size snowflakes which I lightly stamped with Soft Sand ink, then tacked them onto the glass using a bit of Glossy Accents. I'm quite happy with how it looks... and I might just have to keep this one for myself!

A Little Holiday Canvas Sneak

Well helloooo there!I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving Holiday! I did.

I've started my Christmas holiday canvas. I let the camera roll as I was working to capture the process. Once I'm done, I'll edit the video and share it here. So...are you ready for a peek?

As you can see, I've used classic Shari colors in pool, silver, beiges, browns, copper and whites. YUM!

If you want to follow along with the video when I have it completed, here are a few things you may want to pick-up:

White canvas 10" x 10" [I prefer Dick Blick gesso covered canvas]
Modge Podge or Claudine Helmuth's Matte Medium to adhere papers to the canvas
Brushes 1" foam and a stiff bristle brush
Button, baubles, brads, gems and pearls
Book text and music sheets [I get mine from a used book store]
White acrylic paint [nothing fancy]
White tissue paper [the cheaper the better]
Die cut words [I create mine with my Silhouette]
Die cut tree shape, snowflakes and birds [used my Silhouette]
Cardstock for shapes [Kraft and Neenah]
Other cardstock [light neutrals wide enough to span the canvas]
Distress Inks and blending tools
White Embossing supplies
Stamps
Glossy Accents, pattern paper and clear buttons
quilters thread and needle [or heavy thread]
ribbon, twine, pop dots

WOW... 11.11.11

Such an interesting date for this Veterans Day, don't you think? Very fitting to be honoring our soldiers on such a day as this. I would like to thank all the men and women of the armed forces for their dedication to the citizens of this country, to lay their lives on the line to serve and protect our rights and freedoms. Thank You!

I am thrilled to be writing from our nations capital... Washington D.C.. I've been dying to get out here, to visit Arlington, the Vietnam wall... the monuments... and finally, my dream has come true.

As some of you may know, there is an Operation Write Home blog hop going on today. I LOVE this organization, so kind and thoughtful.

I was asked to do a card for the Hero Blog... and guess what I did??? I used a new stamp set from the 2012 catalog. It is specifically for OWH. How awesome is that???

I am absolutely in LOVE with the combination of Vintage Photo and Broken China together!!! Here's a closer peek.

I'll have the supplies for you at the bottom of this post... But in the meantime, I have a really old video of my hubba hubba husband back when he was in the Marine Corp. So proud he served. He was such a young nervous pup...kinda melts my heart all over again!!! Sorry about the sound, afterall... he's on a ship.

Getting Caught Up...

Wow this has been an incredibly busy couple weeks.

First off.. I'd like to take the time to thank you all for your very kind words, prayers and comfort for my niece Courtney. She has made a nearly complete recovery! What a girl!

Since I've been home from Houston, I worked with more 2012 Hero stamps...gahhh there are some must haves!!! We also worked on some Catalog Debut cards which you will start seeing in a store near you. These are some great samples with awesome stamps! I'll sneak peek as soon as I get the go ahead, but in the meantime, you can catch some peeks on the Hero Blog.

Then I had my technique article... did you all have a chance to see it? I know there has been tons happening on the Hero Blog, and sometimes it gets a little lost. Here's a close-up shot... the theme being Bling it Up!

This is really easy to make, just grab your scraps of paper,

your buttons, pearls, gems or what-ever you want to use on your tree.

I'm heading out in the morning to teach a couple classes at Memories and Beyond in Downers Grove, IL. THEN, on Thursday, I head out to Washington DC, I'm teaching at the Happy Stamper in Reston, Virginia!!! I can't wait.

Life just happens...

...and I'm heading to Texas today for a trade show. The best part is that I get to see my Jemmifer!!! She warms my heart and a good warming it needs right now.

As some of you may know, my niece was mugged in downtown Chicago early Wednesday morning. Her coward of an assailant punched her in the mouth which immediately left her unconscious and knocked her back where she hit her head on the concrete. All of this for a purse? Really?

She will be okay...eventually. The CT scan revealed no internal damage, no breaks, her teeth will be fine, the bruises, cuts and bumps will heal. I just pray her spirit will not be broken. She is such an angel to us all. I am sooooo angry, heartbroken, discouraged, baffled... BLAH!!!

Sorry for venting... but most of all, thanks for listening!

I've been swallowed up...

... with so much to do. It's amazing how just when I think I've gotten caught up with my deadlines... something comes my way and I get behind again.

The day I got back from Scrapfest... I had a box of NEW Hero Arts 2012 stamps waiting for me. So my blog went neglected for awhile. Sorry about that!

I was able to squeak in a card for Operation Write Home that was featured on the Hero Blog yesterday for World Card Making Day! I had fun making this one with some camouflage colors which is perfect for soldiers to use to send home.

I used the Hero Arts digital die cut for the Hanging Ornaments, cut them out first with my Silhouette, then used a stamp positioner to get perfect image alignment. If you haven't tried this process, it's pretty cool. The card instructions are HERE and I've included all the supplies below.

Did I scare you?

This past week-end I had a play with one of Kerri Bradford's This & That kits. This is my first card as part of her design team. For some reason I am in the mood for Halloween. I love the rich colors and the whimsical Haunted House.

I created the "Tombstone" shape in the Silhouette software by welding a circle and rectangle together, them placed the bat with-in a circle to mock a moon before I cut it out.

I also tried something different... I used Tim Holtz Distress Crackle Paint (Rock Candy) on the bat and fence. It dries so fast and gave me the texture I wanted. Such a superb product!!!

After using Distress Inks with an applicator to color my shapes, I stamped them with larger background images. I blotted the Envelope Pattern image with a baby wipe to give it a more imperfect look.

I am getting ready to head up to Minnesota on Thursday to attend the annual Archiver's Scrapfest. Have you been there? It's a week-end packed full of friends, make and takes and classes... all held within the confines of the Mall of America. If you're able to attend, come on by and see Jennifer and I, we are sharing a booth with the lovely ladies of Basic Grey.

This year I'm bringing my son Scooter with me so he can visit with my husbands family.... and catch a Twins game. I'm going to put him to work first thing setting up our booth. What's he going to say...no???

Floating Window Card...

... with Faux Letter Press was a hit at one of my recent classes. This card can be adapted to suit any ocassion, even the Holidays!!!

The store owner at my local store asked me to incorporate Design Adhesives and Foils (my first time trying these)... and Oh My do they work well on acetate!!!

Faux Letter Press is easy, just ink up your embossing folder with SHADOW ink (because it works the best), put your paper in the folder and run it through your machine. Viola! This technique inks the valleys of the embossed paper. So cooool!!!

To finish things off... I added a colorful butterfly and a few pearls.

Hi everyone!

I've been working my fingers to the bone to create a few classes and am excited to share my upcoming schedule!

First off... I leave Thursday to join my Jemmifer in Cincinnati for Stampaway this week-end. Classes are full sorry to say. I hope I'll see some familiar faces in the crowd!!!

Then once I'm home, I'll be teaching a unique class at my local stamp store Peddler's Den on Saturday, August 27th from 1-3pm. I've put together a really fun and informative Mix It Up class where I'll be touching on the basics of how to use the Silhouette (yep taking my computer), Hero Arts Digital Die cuts, Spellbinders, Copic Markers, Smooch Sprays, Designer Adhesives and Foil, and Embossing Folders. I will also be squeaking in some classes at Memories and Beyond in Downers Grove either the 9th or 23rd of October, I'll let you know the dates when I get confirmation.

And I'm not done yet... The week-end of Nov 12 & 13th, I'll be flying East to Virginia for a bunch of Classes at The Happy Stamper. And I will be down in Peoria Illinois sometime in November at Scrapadoodle.

Something fun and a giveaway!

Joy to You Holiday 2011 Blog Hop!

Hi everyone! Thanks for stopping by. From the moment I saw THIS stamp... I knew it would quickly become one of my favorite holiday images. I love its simplicity plus the many techniques that can be done with a solid type image. The card I created today is clean and simple and has my favorite color palette... BROWNS!

Here's a peek at the details....

I pulled out some (really old) Basic Grey Holiday papers to use on this card, figured I should stop hoarding it and finally put it to good use. I stamped the image with Soft Sand ink on a Kerri Bradford digital cutting label (I love the versatility of digital cutting to change sizes and create layered pieces).

Today is the day that all of our 2011 Holiday stamps and accessories can be purchased in our online store. YAY!!! You can check them out HERE!

But before I go...I thought I'd leave you with a colorful card I made using a die cut within a die cut. I've used my favorite technique (the walk and wiggle) with Distress Inks, a craft sheet and spritzing water with my mini mister. HERE is a link to a video if you want to check out the technique.

Tip: To cut out the butterfly on the card, just place the small butterfly die inside the Ornamental die and run them through your die cut machine using white cardstock. I used the cut-out butterfly as my embellishment.

And now I'm off to spend 4 fabulous days with my Jemmifer!!!

This card is from my most recent technique article. It is using one of our Peeking Posies Digital Die Cuts along with the coordinating Peeking Posies stamp set. Have you tried these yet?

Hi everyone! Sorry I was away....was up to my eyeballs with assignments... some really good NEW stuff is coming down the pipes! Wish I could share, but not yet!

Sometimes I just want to play...no pressure... just create... so play I did. I created a card with my adorable Teardrop Tree die cut from My Favorite Things and a simple little Thank You.

I picked up this Teardrop Tree a while back and hadn't had a chance to run it through the ol' die cutting machine... my Basic Grey "Out of Print" paper was sitting right in front of me...and the rest is history!

This card is quick and simple, mainly die cuts... stamped background and message plus a little distressing on the edges. FUN! I've provided links below.

Watercolor with Distress Stains

Hi everyone!

This week on the Hero Blog, we've been tag teaming together to bring you a variety of cards featuring some NEW stamps from the most recent Summer Catalog!

I put together a card using Distress Stains and the NEW Large Lotus Background. I LOVE this stamp with the stains!!! Also, as I've been moderating comments on the Hero Blog and some of you have asked where to find the Daisy Die Cut from My Favorite Things. I've include a link to Simon Says Stamps at the bottom of this post.

Sometimes a stamp set comes along ...that just rings true to me. Many Dots is one of those sets. It can be used for ANY occasion, in ANY color, for ANY one. It is one of those timeless collections, a must have in the ol' stamp toolbox.

I made a couple really quick cards using various shadow inks plus Latte Chalk ink, Soft Brown and Soft Sand as my neutrals. No special techniques going on here, just pure stamping.

These are just a few color combo's to use. I can see a wedding set with white on white and a touch of silver too. Oh...and summer colors or even red white and blue for the 4th of July.

Since we're all busy in the summer... for a quick grab a card idea, determine a card design, then stamp a bunch and add a greeting for the occasion at the time a card is needed. FUN!!!

Hi everyone! It's the beginning of the month (again) so that means it's time for my monthly technique article. As part of the Hero Challenge this month, we are featuring watercolor techniques. I thought this would be a great time to show you how to use your Distress Inks for paints.

Here is a card I put together, I LOVE the birds on the branches! I've had this stamp for awhile and was wanting to use it, thought it worked well with the watercolor technique.

Quick Copic's Card to share...

Hi everyone! I thought I'd share a quick card with you.... one that I taught at Stamp N Scrap Ink this past weekend. Copic's are great fun, and so easy once you get the hang of it.

I just love THIS FLOWER!!!! Oh and THIS one would work too. I used the following Copic's:
R35, R37, R39, YG93, YG95, YG97 and for the flower center YR04, YR07. The card design is Jennifer McGuire inspired.

Speaking of Jennifer...I'm flying out in the morning to see her. She warms my heart and brightens my soul! I can't wait!!!

We will be teaching a bunch of classes at Simply Scrapbooks near Dayton Ohio, should be a great time. Come see us if you can, the more the merrier!!!

Oh, my skin surgery went well, I have about a 2" incision on my neck, but glad that part is over.

This and That...

I have been so busy lately with work, family stuff, class planning... but most recently, my dear niece Courtney (who refers to me as MomAunt) graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a Bachelors degree in Fashion. This is the niece who years ago had spinal surgery to fuse 14 vertebrae in her back due to severe Scoliosis. I've always considered her my hero for overcoming the odds and taking charge of her life...always facing it head on with a smile and positive attitude...but now I am even more proud as she ventures into the wonderful world of FASHION!

Last night we were invited to LaundryMagazine's first fashion show featuring Growing Works which was a collaboration of newly graduated designers set inside the Garfield Park Conservatory. Courtney was Director of Operations for the event, making sure each model was styled and ready to walk.

You can see my little pip-squeek at the end of this video, she's the adorable (not so tall) brunette with the strapless white dress...just after the models. Kudo's to these girls for putting on a fabulous show, we will be seeing more of them as they head out into their field of design.

On another note...so many of you have asked how I'm doing with my CPAP machine. Although I still feel it's quite barbaric... it does seem to be working. I am no longer bogged down and am used to the gear that I must wear to get a good nights rest. Yay!

Then... a few weeks ago, I noticed a couple spots on my leg and neck that alarmed me. I went to the dermatologist to have them removed and biopsied... sure enough, they are both Squamous cell. All of the cells were removed from my leg, but I have to go in next Tuesday to have the rest of the cells removed from my neck. Pretty crappy news... but not a shock as I am aware of my risk and sun history. I waist no time in seeing the doctor. Once removed, I'll be fine... it's just not fun going through it.

So...Please wear your sunscreen this summer!!! OK?

Oh and before I go...I have a few more openings for my Saturday Technique Bootcamp class (I added an additional class) at Stamp N Scrap Ink in Dyer Indiana. If you're in the area, pop in and see me.

Hero Digital Die Cuts

Hi everyone!

I thought I'd talk a little about the Digital Die Cuts that were just released in the Hero Arts Store. These die cuts are for DIGITAL cutting machines. They are files that you load on your computer and then cut with a digital cutting machine. The file types provided in each download die cut package are:

AI, JPG, PNG, SVG, DXF, GSD and STUDIO.

Please check the software for your machine to see what file types are compatible, then load accordingly.

The Die Cut machines that I CAN suggest are:

Craft Robo
Silhouette
Wishblade
E-Craft
Pazzles
BossKut Gazzelle

The die cuts are sized to fit their corresponding Hero Arts stamp image to give you a detailed shape to cut out and stamp on. Here is an example of a finished card.

Here's how I did it....

Cut out the die of the Flower Wreath on Snow layering paper (white cardstock), with the Silhouette.
Using a stamp positioner, stamp the Flower Wreath image onto the shape.
Color the image with pencils and assemble onto a card.

You can also color the die cuts with Distress Inks then stamp. Here's a quick example.

A quick embossing folder card

Here's a quick card idea for you.... soft colors, lot's of texture, fun technique.

I inked up a Tim Holtz embossing folder with Soft Sand ink before running a panel of white cardstock through the folder. I trimmed the panel, stamped and cut out some flowers, then added a birthday message. You could change the colors up to fit any mood, gender or occasion.

We are getting soooo close to enjoying sunshiny days with Spring weather. But I don't dare put the snow shovel and salt away just yet. We have started our seeds for the garden in a little indoor greenhouse, figure we'll get them in the ground the first week of May.

If you're following the Hero Arts Blog, this month we have sketches as part of the April challenge. I thought I'd share a card I did using one of the sketches and some of our brand spankin new Basic Grey stamps and papers. These will be available soon at a retailer near you. The paper pad is called "Sweet Threads" and the Poly Clear stamp set is "Sweat Threads Labels" (CL510).

I created a window, much like the card I did for the HA blog HERE. I used color pencils on the flowers and leaves to make them stand out a bit more. Fun new stamps, I hope you'll have a chance to play with them soon!

I've had questions regarding the canvas we made for class featured in the Hero Arts video from the Collins Group show. As much as I would love to share the details on making the canvas, I must allow the retailers who attended our class teach it in their stores first. BUT, I promise, I will eventually share and perhaps make a step-by-step video how to. I hope you understand.

It's APRIL!!!

Hi everyone!
I've had tons of things going on behind the scenes... and NOW I can finally share!!!!

First off, remember that top secret project I had been working on? I put out a sneak preview of it today on the Hero Blog. I've designed some digital die cuts that go with specific Hero Arts stamps. This is very exciting for me as I'm a HUGE Silhouette user/stamper and now I get to combine the best of both worlds by cutting out my stamped images. We are starting off by offering 20 digi cutting files, and will continue to create more.

Here's how they will look in the Hero Arts Store...

The files will come in: SVG, DXF, AI, JPG, PNG, GSD, and STUDIO. I believe I've covered all the formats needed so they can be used in just about any machine.

Hi Everyone! I have a little goody to share with you today. I was asked by Judith of Jay Gee's Nook down in Australia to be a guest designer and create a card as part of her monthly challenge. Take a look at the gorgeous inspiration photo.... gahhh.... it's just screaming Shari COLORS!!!

Yummy Right?

Here's what I came up with....

I had left over frames from cutting out Tim Holtz tags, thought I'd use them as a window. It worked out pretty good! I just white embossed the Life Of the Party Dots by Basic Grey. Then I stamped the Old Letter Writing on some acetate with Cotton White StazOn and stuck it to the inside of the frame.

The Pod Sprigs is a Hero Arts Silhouette Cut, back in the day it was one of my favorite stamps.

Along with me sharing a guest spot, a little birdy told me Judith will be having a Hero Arts give-away for some lucky person down in OZ. Today marks one year since my mamma's passing. I'm amazed at how fast the time has gone by. My love for her has never wavered, she is on my mind with each passing day. Helllloooooo! Jeeeez... that was quite the little break I took. Not for any reason... I just got caught up in the everyday events of LIFE. Beware... this is a long post...BUT it's full of pictures.

I've been on the Hero Blog this week... seems like it's been a long time. Feels good and I'm sharing Spring Colors because I need some Spring weather just about now. I'm tired of winter. :o)

Finished Heart Canvas

I worked this canvas over... I had so many elements on it but finally decided that a minimalistic approach was best... in the end I did not want anything to distract from the heart. The beauty of working with canvas art and Modge Podge is that you can change your mind... If you use glue dots or tape runner adhesive it's easy to take them off from the plastic type surface.

So this is it...my heart. Next to find a frame!

If YOU were a heart...what kind would you be?

I'd be a buttons, bobbles and gems kinda heart in "Beachy" colors.

I started a new Canvas yesterday, just a little one this time, it's 5" x 7". I'm actually killing two birds with one stone. I'll give this to Tom for Valentines...but he has to give it back so it can go into a gallery.

You see... a group of local artists will be displaying their pieces in a gallery showing at the end of March in a downtown Chicago loft. This group is called the Local Hob Nob, started by students at Somonauk High School. They were sweet enough to invite my old self...lol. I thought my strong point was paper on canvas, so I went with it. I'll be showing my MOM canvas and will create one more to go along with my color scheme.

In the meantime... here's how the process starts... I choose my canvas and color pieces. I've used Basic Grey White Paper Pack papers and the brads in the background are from My Mind's Eye Lost and Found collection.

Then I start cutting or tearing paper affixing them to the canvas with Modge Podge or other gel medium.

And in this case, I traced a heart onto the canvas and started adding my buttons, brads and bobbles. I actually sewed the buttons in place because I want them to be secure since it's a display piece. I wouldn't want anything to fall off over time.

I added a Silhouette cutting image "You"... kinda over-sized allowing it to hang off the edge and a little butterfly above it. I'll finish this up today and will post a picture of the complete project tomorrow.

So...what kind of Heart would you be?

Playing with Hearts and Valentines...

I got into my studio today to clean up after the Tornado disaster from my Pre-CHA creating. I found a few Silhouette shapes that I had cut but didn't work with and thought I would make a quick card using the NEW Hero Hues printed layering papers. So YUMMY!!!

I used a couple of the Blush papers and was pleased to find that Fired Brick Distress ink coordinates nicely.

Here's a close-up of the cluster of goodies I created. That's a little Tim Holtz flower (die cut) and Hero's creme art flower. The cutting images I used are both Hero Arts. They are Striped Edge Heart (the center portion) and Floral Ornament (I cut it in white and wiped it with Rock Candy Stickles).

I only stamped a little bit on the heart using the small flourish from the Live Life set. This set also has great messages for the inside of the card. Hope you enjoy a peek at our new papers!

Back Home Early from CHA...

Well the weatherman told me to get my behind back home before the blizzard begins. I arrived at O'Hare last night just as it started snowing...light for now 1-3 inches... but getting heavy later today (blizzard warning). So here I am... waiting and wondering how long we might be socked in!

Sooooo CHA… did you all see the peaks we put on the HERO BLOG and on the Hero Arts FACEBOOK? Did you see the Basic Grey? Here's a quick video... wish you could see everything in better detail…sorry!

I did a scrapbook page for the Silhouette booth, I haven't done a page in so long, it was fun to get my sea legs back. Here's what I did...used a fun picture of my niece Courtney and went with the feel of her artsy, fun personality.

I cut all the pieces using white cardstock, colored them with distress inks and then stamped (the frame). For the little flowers with long stems next to the picture, I left the blossom area white and added Rock Candy Stickles.

I love cutting out beautiful words... I think the "Everyday" on this page adds so much just colored in black.

There are four Silhouette elements in total... the letters COURTNEY, the frame, the flowers and the big EVERYDAY word. Hope you like it!

Another Quick Silhouette shape to share

I love love love this concept of a die cut.... It's a word with a matching skinny frame. I used a straight pen with Glossy Accents to adhere the frame to the word. These designs are by Loni Stevens, you can see her portfolio here. I'll be playing with these for awhile.

I'm looking forward to getting myself out of this frozen tundra to enjoy some Sunny Southern California weather next week at CHA! I'll be demonstrating in the Hero Booth from 10-1 Saturday, Monday and Tuesday. Stop by and see us if you're able.

A CHA sneaky peek....

Ok as promised I said I would share some peeks of upcoming goodies for CHA. I can't reveal exactly what I've used, but I can give you a glimpse....

This is a box card I did for the Silhouette Booth... the cut images are Six Hearts and Decorative Circles. I usually cut everything with white cardstock then color with distress inks. The background stamp is a NEWBY that will send you to the moon when you see what we're up to. THAT is a BIG surprise!!! I've got a few more that I'll post in the next coming days. FUN eh?

Say hello to my little friend!

This is my new sleep friend....my full mask and CPAP machine. Let the fun begin!!! I wonder what this will do to my DOO in the morning...haha. I know it will take some time getting used to it, but here I go...I'm on my way. Oh.. and day 17= 0 smokes. :o)

On another note. We received terrible news today. We lost someone very special in the stamping industry this week-end. Our very courageous, gentle giant, man of will and great friend Mike Han lost his battle with brain cancer over the week-end. Mike is the owner of Clear Stamp..."the man" that brought Hero Arts clear stamps to market. He was the friendliest, strongest, most generous man I've known, he had a smile as big as Texas and a handshake made of iron. He was a mans man as well as ladies man, loved by all. He will be missed. I am very saddened. Blessings to his family and friends.

I'll be back in a day or two with some CHA sneaks...shhhhh.

My Christmas was fantastic! I had the chance to visit with family, eat lots of wonderful food and enjoy huge amounts of snow-fall. Here's a fun little shot I got one frosty morning. It's Frozen Fog on my Mickey Mouse antenna ears.

I've been busy getting ready for the upcoming CHA trade show this month in LA. We are releasing some exciting new stuff, but the best part is that I get to see my Jennifer (makes me so happy).

I've gone through some changes to better myself. As you know, I've been investigating my sleep issues, found out that I have Obstructive Sleep Apnea. I went through a second sleep study to determine the level of air pressure needed to keep my airway open during sleep. This coming Monday, I get my machine... bitter sweet, but am so looking forward to feeling refreshed.

On another note, this may or may not come as a shock to you...I've been a smoker most of my life. This was especially hard on me when my mother passed (lung cancer). Her death drove home the fact that I needed to quit, I felt the pressure but also needed the crutch that only cigarettes can provide. On New Years I set down the cigarettes and gave up my nasty habit. I was ready, the time was right and I have not looked back. I'm on my way to a smoke free life. YAY!!! Now to work on my husband!

Now this brings to mind another funny tidbit...I have not done giveaways or sent cards to many people because of the smoke smell. Such a shame...but with the new year and new commitments, you may see a few random giveaways pop up from time to time.

Sorry to ramble, that's what's been happening with me. I'm doing great, feeling strong and embrassing my new begininings!

A gift from nature...

I was being teased by this little guy outside the living room window this morning. As soon as I was ready to shoot, he'd move. Then he landed on a closer branch and stayed put allowing me to snap away. Mind you I shot this through the window and screen, I'm pleased I took the time to give it a go.

It's cute how he has little specs of snow stuck to the top of his crown and on his face.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas, I sure did. We had a fresh blanket of snow fall this morning. The boys went out sledding (it's been years since they've done that), then we went to a family gathering this evening, much food, laughter and merriment.

It's Days like this....

...that I LOVE!! A balmy 32 degree morning after an evening of a beautiful ice covering. I wish my focusing skills were better, my footing was unsteady as I was taking these... I was sinking in the foot of snow on the ground. This is my lilac bush (more like a tree).

I have an update on my sleep study. Thanks for asking. I do indeed have Obstructive Sleep Apnea. In 300 minutes of study, I awoke 21 times. I had 41 REM episodes that brought my oxygen level down to 85% or below. I had an average of 15 episodes per hour on my side and 26 on my back. They have put me in the moderate to severe range (because of my REM/oxygen levels). I go in for another overnight study the beginning of January with a CPAP machine.

So all in all, I'm thrilled that I now have answers and will be able to get help. I can't imagine what it will feel like to have energy once again! I used to be one that would get up early...wait for others to wake... do chores, watch kids, get my work done and cook a lot! I've been a blob for the past few years... just getting by... only taking care of things with priority.

Sorry I don't have any stamping inspiration for you today, I've taken a few days to do Christmas preparations. I have finished up my shopping with just a few more to wrap. I picked up some fruits and nuts for a festive Waffle bar as our Christmas breakfast.... perhaps with Mimosas. :o)

I made today's card a little while back, it's been floating around my studio just waiting to make it's appearance! The snowman comes from THIS digital printout. He is just adorable!

I just love the BOX card...can't help myself! Here's a close up of my coloring.

Hero Arts Blog Hop with Shari Carroll

Thanks Margie! Hello Hoppers, you've arrived at the next stop of the Hero Arts 2011 Catalog Blog Hop! I'm Shari Carroll, one of the Hero Arts designers. I can't wait to show you some of our new stamps! I happen to think our new images are the BEST EVER!!!

My first card showcases the Poly Clear CL502 Just Saying Hi stamp set. I love the vintage style, it's masculine yet perfect for everyday correspondence.

I've used simple stamping to create my card highlighting the Candlestick phone. With a label, message strip and flower, this card came together really fast.

I also used a couple new large woodblock backgrounds, the S5507 Envelope Pattern and S5497 Diagonal Dictionary Type. These are two stamps that need to go straight to your wish list!

My next card focuses on the new woodblock F5493 Hand Drawn Small Flower. Of course I just had to cut and layer it, the clean lines makes it so easy to do. For this, I used my Distress inks to color. The green portion of the flower was spritzed with water once it was colored.

Here's a close-up of the flower.

I've used my favorite box card style and again I've used the new Envelope Pattern (S5507) woodblock stamp with Old Paper Distress ink for a hint of texture. My little message comes from the Poly Clear CL490 Sending Smiles Message set. I finished it off with some blue silk ribbon, twine and a cluster of blue pearls.

Sharing a week with Joy Taylor: Day 5

Welcome back to my week of sharing creations with Joy Taylor. This is our final day together...and I'm sad to see it end. Joy is so kind, easy going, not to mention UBER talented. Getting to know her has been so wonderful.

Our final entry in this sharing week is to create a tree with our embellishments. After seeing Joy's gorgeous card yesterday, I decided to go back to one of my old favorite color combination that I haven't used in awhile. Purple and Green.

And here's a close-up of the flower rows and the gemstones.

I've had a bottle of itty bitty Prima flowers sitting on the shelf....they were just screaming to become an elegant Christmas tree. This is easier than it looks, I just put adhesive on my card base (in a tree shape) and started adding flowers in rows left to right, then right to left, starting from the bottom. I actually hand sew the twine so it would be secure.

Now I'm off to see Joy's creation. Care to join me?

Sharing a week with Joy Taylor: Day 4

Wow this week is going by so fast!!! Today is Day 4 with JOY. We decided to have a play with Distress inking. Mine isn't too inky...but I like it! I used Victorian Velvet and Frayed Burlap for my trees just to see how they looked together.

The color combo turned out rather vintagy...and well... Victorian. Here's a close up of the trees. I used my Copic maker #RV95 to color the pearls, I think it matches pretty good.

I inked the Season's Greetings Trees by pressing the ink pads onto my craft sheet. I walked the tree in the ink to pick up both colors, gave the stamp a spritz of water, then stamped them onto white cardstock. I cut out my hills from book text, edged them a bit with Frayed Burlap and put them on the card. Oh and I lightly stamp the background of the card with the Starry Sky stamp (I just swiped across the stamp with Soft Sand shadow ink). I added glossy accents to the centers of all the little stars.

Welcome back to my blog everyone! Today Joy and I are creating cards with the Hero Arts Poly Clear set Magic of Christmas! This set is so versatile.

I decided to create my card using an uncommon color scheme for the holidays. I went with Clean and Simple. Check it out!

And here's a close-up of the white embossing details.

I used Bo Bunny: Ocean Dot and KaiserCraft: Le Chateau Collection papers. Love these colors together! This is actually a card that you could make several of, the coloring of the leaves is minor and can be done in a snap.

Sharing a week with Joy Taylor: Day 2

Welcome back friends! As you know Joy and I are working together this week sharing ideas on our blogs. My blog posts will appear at 3:00pm CST. Each day we are using something different as our inspiration and today we have a little sketch.

I turned the sketch for a vertical top fold card (this seems to be my favorite fold lately). I had some extra little digi snowmen laying around left-over from my ornament project and thought "he" was perfect with a snowy background.

Add here's a peek up close at the details.

One tip I can offer is for the oval. I drew the oval in my Silhouette program and then laid the snowflake on top, cut as usual and you end up with a snowflake within the shape. COOL! I stuck the cut out snowflake inside the card.

Oh and then I couldn't wait to use my Tim Holtz border die, love it...I just stamped it with the Hero Friend Definition using ColorBox Frost White pigment ink (my favorite). Ummmm... I used a NEW 2011 stamp...can you spot it?

Sharing a week with Joy Taylor: Day 1

Hello there!

I've been wanting to spend a week on my blog with other stampy friends to share inspiration and ideas. My first victim is Joy Taylor from Australia. Joy is one of the fabulous artists on the design team for Purple Onion. You may have seen her stuff on Flickr, she also has a BLOG, and a photo gallery on Purple Onion.

So here is what we decided to do. Each day we will show you our inspiration piece and what we have made with it. Today's piece is a pillow from Pier 1 Imports. Check it out! I only wish I owned it.

I loved the wavy pattern and decided to cut my favorite Basic Grey papers in a similar fashion. Shhhh.....I got so wrapped up in my papers I forgot to stamp! Didn't feel it needed stamping once it came together. I used my Versamark Pen to write "Merry Christmas", I followed along the wave then white embossed. I added a string of pearls along the bottom wave as my pom poms.

And here's a close-up of my embossed letters. They're not perfect just kinda homey looking.

Holiday Cheer..... kindness and good will.

Yesterday I was surprised when GoDaddy rang the house. You see, I have purchased my name on several domains (just in case I make it BIG). The nice gentleman on the other end of the line informed me that he has reviewed my account and questioned whether I need the recurring monthly fee that I am paying.

As we chatted and he understood my "wants", it was clear to him that I did not use or need some of the add-ons I had signed up for. He continued on and offered to suspend the monthly charge. I was so grateful, and thanked him for reviewing my account. Then he took his kindness one step further. He offered me a refund for all the months I had paid.

Who does that? Who calls you out of the blue to offer you refunds? GoDaddy does.

I thought that was worth sharing!

The NOT so glamorous Shari!

Please don't laugh at me..haha...this is what I looked like last night after getting all wired up for my sleep study.

Needless to say, I didn't sleep very well, I woke up so many times... it wasn't so much the wires... I was just sleeping light (camera shy I suppose). Plus the guy in the next room was snoring really loud! I'll get the results in a couple weeks. Oh, the reason I have gone in for this study is that I snore really bad and I am tired all the time. I wake up just as tired as when I go to bed, and sometimes I can't get to sleep. It's crazy!

Okay, now you can laugh.... :o)

I'm Keeping Busy on the Hero Arts Blog!

Hey there! I'm up bright and early this morning...odd for me. I am going in on Sunday evening for an overnight sleep study, I have a terrible time getting good rest. I am pressing myself to get into a normal sleep pattern before my big test!!! Haha.. I guess you can say I'm studying. I can't wait to get this all figured out.

Have you noticed that I have been busy over on the Hero Arts blog? It feels like Santa's workshop around here. I've been tinkering away at stamp crafting.

This is the project I made for today, simple, yet effective.... using my Silhouette, inks and stamps.

Here's a closer look at the goodies in the bucket....

Shhhhhhh.... here's a peek of tomorrow's project... so stinkin CUTE!

I love this time of year (except the weather) haha...it's a time to get creative, use up all that ribbon I've been hoarding, decorate the house, and of course....shopping!!!

Hi everyone, looks like winter is fast approaching as I'm sitting here writing to you bundled in a fleece blanket, listening to the wind howl. I've created a new blog header to reflect the chilly days coming and as I was loading it...a thought came to mind. Follow me on this brain trail if you will.

Is anyone interested in seeing Hero Arts Blog-Ware? Like headers with matching icons, buttons, etc? Should I consider developing some to be sold on 2ps? I'd love some feedback from you all. Please drop me a line or comment letting me know your thoughts. I'll also put together a poll to see what styles you like, what blog host you use, how often you change your header, do you want room for a photo like mine, etc.

Hello everyone! I know... I've been missing in action for a few days. I was away last week-end teaching some classes at Cottage Corner in Iowa and I had a blast! I just love teaching and meeting new people!

When I got home, I had to play catch up... this always happens to me, as soon as I get caught up, I am behind again. I'm gearing up for a two week stint on the Hero Blog starting Nov 22. I'm gong to be featuring Digital and Hybrid holiday goodies. The card below is from my class at Cottage Corner, it's Hybrid and a good example of what I'll have in store for you on the Hero blog.

I had the digi sheet printed at Office Max, then colored the panel with Fired Brick, Wild Honey and Pumice Stone Distress inks. I cut out the label, added my own greeting, colored the flower and mounted everything back together with a little foam tape. VIOLA!

I'll be back in a few days... I promise.

Inked and Stamped Shapes

Well, here it is! My November Technique Article! I'm quite happy with the way everything turned out for this one. I had a blast and actually made a few more that I'll share in the next few days.

I put the outer portion of the snowflake on an acetate pocket card.

Here's the inner snowflake on a shape card.

I put the outer Vintage snowflake on an acetate card over an eggshell notecard.

Finally, I put the inner Vintage snowflake on a cut circle.

Home made Potato Soup!

Hi everyone...the temperatures are dropping quickly here in Illinois. It looks like it's time to start cooking for winter. I'll share one of our family favorites with you. Home Made Potato soup! This is a good base recipe to alter for dietary needs, vegetarian or organic.

Shari's Tator Soup: Serves 8 (guys)

Potatoes (8-10 peeled and diced)
Green Onions (4 cut with greens)
Bacon (5 slices uncooked or 10 slices pre-cooked) cut in 1/2" pieces
Milk (this can vary) ( I use 2%)
Salt (to taste) (I use sea salt)
Pepper (to taste)
Potato Flakes (to thicken)

Crisp bacon in the bottom of a stock pot. Add onions, potatoes and 2 tsp. of salt, add enough water to cover potatoes. On medium heat, cook till corners of potatoes become slightly rounded (about 1/2 hour). Drain water. Add milk to cover potatoes and return to heat, add pepper. Once hot, sprinkle 3 tbsp. of potato flakes to the soup. Salt and pepper to taste.

If you like thicker soup, add more potato flakes. If you're vegetarian, omit bacon. If you're vegan, omit bacon and substitute milk with soy milk.

Another option would be to add fresh Parsley and Carrots. You could also use small pieces of diced ham instead of bacon.

Another Fall Hero Arts Shape

I about hit the floor when I saw this shape on Silhouette, it is designed after one of my favorite stamp sets Trees of the Season. It's so Autumn!

Once I cut out the shape I...

Inked it with Wild Honey, Rusty Hinge and Vintage Photo Distress inks
Splattered it with water drops and blotted
Stamped the Friend Definition with Vintage Photo
Used foam mount and put it on a Kraft panel (with distressed edges)
Cut a strip of green corrugated and punched circles
Assembled onto a rust notecard with a ribbon bow

Treats Anyone?

I'm still playing with the goodies that EK sent me. I thought I'd make special treat bags for a couple of the kids in our neighborhood. And because I'm not sure what kind of candy their moms will allow them to have, I've stuffed the clear bags with Oreo's. Yum! Too bad I couldn't find anymore of the orange filled ones, that would have been way cute!

Simple stamping here, just the Large Web with Cotton White StazOn onto the cello bag. I made a topper out of black cardstock, stapled it over the bag, added ribbon, then used THIS set of spider stickers along with THIS spooky bones and bats selection (too CUTE). The line of skulls comes from THIS 12" border set (their faces are so hysterical!).

Here's a close-up of the bow detail, spider and skulls...

To make a really QUICK bag O' Treats...just tie off the top of the bag with ribbon and add some stickers.

It's funny, I didn't think that I really liked skulls, but have to say, these Tim Coffey sticker designs are outrageously adorable!

Fall LoVe!!!!

The stamping possibilities are EndLeSs!!!! I had to jump ahead of Halloween with this one because I was so excited! Enjoy!

Halloween Wreath

When Tara at EK initially sent me goodies to play with, this was the first idea I had for a Halloween card, it just took me a little while to get to it. I wanted to show how to use the Wreath of Leaves in a completely different season.

I white embossed the Wreath of Leaves onto a charcoal color cardstock. Then I stamped the Large Web using Black Soot Distress Ink with a mist of water. I sponged more Black Soot around the edges moving inward, and wiped off excess ink from the wreath with a baby wipe. I used THIS skull with it's googly eyes (so FUNNY) with ribbon underneath. The greeting comes from THIS set of 12" spooky borders, just cut it to fit the card. I cut out the candy corns from THIS paper, and used Cackle Accents for an aged look.

I finished the card off by using three colors of Hero Arts gems: Sunshine, Floral and Neutrals mixed accents.

EEEK Halloween!

I've been on a roll lately! Not only have I been making a few Hero Arts 2011 catalog cards, I've done a couple cards for a Swedish magazine.....and some EK Halloween fun!

EK Success was kind enough to send me some AWESOME Halloween goodies to play with, and play I did! This card was a total blast! Shhhhh... there's no stamping! GASP!!!! I know, how dare I! Well it didn't need any with all the adorable little parts and pieces.

Where do I begin... The bat at the top comes from THIS set of stickers, just too darned funny!!! The background papers are from THIS set, so much variety in one pack, and the papers are 4"x6", perfect for cardmaking! I punched out a circle from yellow Bo Bunny double dot paper, then edged it with Wild Honey and Scattered Straw Distress inks. Oh and the jack-o-lantern... I cut it out from THIS paper (I thought the expression of it was just too cute!). I covered it with Crackle Accents. Here's a closer look.

The little candy corns come from THIS set of stickers. The Iron batty fence is THIS great Martha border punch, really easy to use. I punched white cardstock and inked it up with Black Soot Distress ink so it would be Grey rather than black. I finished the fence off with some black pearls (arrrrr sounds so pirate-ish) and May Arts stitched ribbon.

I've got tons more ideas kicking around in my head for halloween, can't wait to get back to my desk to play some more! One idea is to use a Stamp from the Hero Holiday release but switch it up to Halloween!
