If YOU were a heart...what kind would you be?

I'd be a buttons, bobbles and gems kinda heart in "Beachy" colors.

I started a new Canvas yesterday, just a little one this time, it's 5" x 7".  I'm actually killing two birds with one stone.  I'll give this to Tom for Valentines...but he has to give it back so it can go into a gallery.

You see... a group of local artists will be displaying their pieces in a gallery showing at the end of March in a downtown Chicago loft.  This group is called the Local Hob Nob, started by students at Somonauk High School.  They were sweet enough to invite my old self...lol.  I thought my strong point was paper on canvas, so I went with it.  I'll be showing my MOM canvas and will create one more to go along with my color scheme.

In the meantime... here's how the process starts... I choose my canvas and color pieces. I've used Basic Grey White Paper Pack papers and the brads in the background are from My Mind's Eye Lost and Found collection.

Then I start cutting or tearing paper affixing them to the canvas with Modge Podge or other gel medium.

And in this case, I traced a heart onto the canvas and started adding my buttons, brads and bobbles. I actually sewed the buttons in place because I want them to be secure since it's a display piece.  I wouldn't want anything to fall off over time.

I added a Silhouette cutting image "You"... kinda over-sized allowing it to hang off the edge and a little butterfly above it.  I'll finish this up today and will post a picture of the complete project tomorrow.

So...what kind of Heart would you be?

:o)

A sea glass one. I found so many pieces of seaglass in Brittany last year I made a heart out of it and took a picture. Now it's all back in a glass bottle.
This canvas is gorgeous. I love all the different buttons.

Beautiful! I think I would be a clear glass heart since everyone can tell what I'm feeling ;D I can't hide anything. I was so inspired by your MOM canvas I made a canvas to give as a baby shower gift! I love how it turned out...

Another gorgeous canvas, Shari. . .looking forward to the finishing touches! Because it's always been a dream of mine to live somewhere warm, I would be a heart made of white sand from a beautiful beach with lots of sunny colors mixed in.

Oh Shari... this is just stunning. I would be just like this I guess... with some drift wood, shells, mini photos and sail canvas!

Can't wait to see the finished product.... FAB. You have inspired me to dig out the boring old canvas's that I have somewhere in my stash! LOL!

Hi Shari

If I were a heart I would be a big soft purple bright shiny "see through" heart .. .. with a dandelion clock caught inside .. .. and everyone would be able to see straight through me and see that I have nothing to hide - just a little hint of beauty to wonder at in the centre.

I love your post. A heart of gorgeous buttons and lots of fantastic layers of paper and card.

Beautiful.

Love Jules xx

Wow..love these sun-bleached colors and your buttons and brads are beautiful. Can't wait to see the finished masterpiece! I would be a heart made to be shabby and distressed, a bit worse for wear with faded colors and smooth edges.

This is just gorgeous Shari - what a beautiful combo of colours, shapes and textures! I think I'd be some sort of hessian and wool heart - very homespun and simple, with a messy bit of uneven stitching and a teeny button somewhere! Jo x

Here we are almost a year later and this is still a stunning project to inspire me. I know my heart would have buttons in it for sure with purple and gold accents and angels within. I love your colour combo though, its so calming. I loved your Mom canvas as well. Very inspiring.

I started picking up sea glass this summer and keep it in a glass bed side caraff. Now I have an idea what to do with it. Thanks...
